Since the pandemic employees are gradually being reintroduced to the office setting.
There have been a lot of talks lately about the benefits of remote work.
Proponents of working from home argue that it is more productive and allows employees to have a better work-life balance.
I agree with this 100%.
But is this really true?
YES!!!!
Or are there some drawbacks to working remotely that people don't often talk about?
What are the pros and cons of both remote working and working in an office setting.
Working in an office no cross dressing working from home can crossdress its a no trainer but seriously working from home for me on the end of a video call I've been able to work whilst in a meeting, work whilst on one meeting on my laptop and another on my iPad..
My multitasking and productivity is now immense to a point if I go into the office or to a face to face meeting my productivity is poor.
What does everyone else think?
Davina
Yes, sounds like in person meetings dont have much benefit for you at all Davina. Hopefully and it doesn’t sound like it, that you never feel isolated from lack of in person interaction. That can be stress inducing too but lurks in the background. 2D meetings mean that little body language nuances we see subconsciously are missed (the minuscule recline when something is said that someone doesn’t appreciate) are overlooked and we can be on the end of that or the person causing it in someone. In person, you don’t realise you spot it but you do and change or clarify your meaning.
personally I have to meet the team and help coach and train, it is part of my senior role, so my time in the office is no longer really my time, it is the teams time - does it mean I get nothing done -YES - does it mean I get nothing done - NO - both Are correct, it just depends which side of the lens you are looking through.
I can’t multitask well, so back to work for me.
My role is that of a stand alone expert here to move us forward and to support.. I no longer manage people directly and I'm on the end of a TEAMS call so it works for me. In fact when I now leave the house to attend face to face meetings I'm playing catch up as on a TEAMS meeting I'm also working on other things whilst listening in and commenting etc.. Sometimes on more than one TESMS meeting at once on iPad and laptop and working on something else multitasking is a Croasdressers super power.. I spent all day yesterday in a meeting which was a) a waste of time and b) given me a backlog of work and today I have to travel into the office for a 2 hour face to face meeting with an hour of travelling not very productive and I'll be working late to catch up ahead of a week off work. It works for some not for all.. I'm a bit of a lone wolf specialist in my field of expertise so hybrid works for me.. Home working work a best especially if I have time to chill out working as Davina.. They don't realise my stress levels and what u do to de-stress.
A good point never considered the training aspect. I can understand as my best learning outcomes are through demonstration and copying those skills. Mentoring also very beneficial to those coming up the ranks. How to act/react and having experienced back up.
we Discuss WFH a lot at work (I work in professional services sector) and when advantages are mentioned I havent yet said, well it allows me to put on a dress and high heels😳
But there are major disadvantages especially if you’re a leader of people who need training and developing. Certainly in an office environment there is so much ‘training’ that goes on without even realising it. A 100% WFH is not conducive to the long term health of A business IMHO. The next crop of managers and leaders will be far less prepared. We have had trainees max the agile working 2 days in office and others who have been in 4-5 times per week. Which set of trainees have improved their skills the most?
so it all depends on role, nature of business etc etc but I think a mixture is better - even though trousers and flat shoes are boring
Definitely pro's and cons both ways. Like you say working from home gives you more opportunity to dress. I sometimes wish I had that option more. I generally have to carry out my jobs at the customers premises so unable to work remotely. Also I tend to have trust issues off setting work to others as worried they won't do it to my standards. I would say at least if you now have more option to work between home and office, this can keep things fresher. Sometimes I know for my own mental well being it is nice not to be working on your own again and see someone else for a bit of banter and just to bounce ideas off. Hope you find your balance 😁
