It finally got me... Herd immunity in schools by the seem of it youngest had it Friday and now oldest and inevitably I've got it.. Esme last one standing that hasn't tested positive and I'm rough with it despite double jabs.
We've been ultra careful followed all the instructions and the kids wear masks in school and use their own hand gell.. masks aren't mandatory, neither is social distancing or hand gell.. setting out kids up to get covid herd immunity!!!
Don’t forget to take blocks of annual leave to truly feel the benefit, and perhaps book it when the kids are IN school to give you more time to dress
I also continue to wear a mask every where I go, I find myself being in a small percentage there still doing this. My best friends daughter popped into Tesco’s one time without a mask and ended up with the really dreadful cold that’s been now doing the rounds - that was 6 weeks ago and she’s still not right.
I'm bored, boss told me to have a week on the sick at least to recover and frustrated that a walk to the loo has me out of breath and I've put on weight. I want my energy back and i want to lose weight.
It was a scary time thinking i wasn't in control of my own destiny and was talking to an ICU consultant about being put to sleep on a ventilator for as long as it took to get my blood oxygen levels back up to scratch.
A night and half a day on an Oring oxygen rig and some other contraption with a drip and forced oxy... I can still taste this a week on.
Amazing treatment from the NHS to get me back on my feet but i know i'll be impatient now and cant be to get my energy back.
Double jabbed does not mean a 100% effective protection against Covid.. having heard friends say they had it mild i assumed i'd be the same. I did have a bite on my leg so maybe that affected me too lowering the immunity to the virus.
It was the 2nd week that floored me affecting my breathing.
My smell and taste went but glad to say i have it back but can taste the oxygen treatment also constantly.
We wear masks shoping but many people are stopping and sad to see Wales one of the highest covid rates in the world currently.. ignorance is bliss.. I suppose I'm the warning mid 40s, family guy, relatively fit, double jabbed and reliant on forced oxy hospitalised. It's not gone yet.
I agree our politicians have given such trollop about the vaccination to protect others.. you can get covid jabbed or not and pass it on jabbed or not. Johnson and the policies in the UK throughout has been late, behind the trend and not on the science.
Schools have definitely been practising herd immunity with the "it doesn't affect kids" but it can affect their parents and grand parents.
Now mine have had Covid i'm hoping it means they have some immunity and so do we but will continue to wear masks in public and they will wear masks in school.
You won't be kicked off the forum you just went up a notch
How are you feeling now Davina? You certainly seem to have had a rotten time of it! That sounds horrendous. You really do have my sympathies.
My gf and I both had it last November - she picked it up from work and as a result I shared the joy! She seemed to have quite a mild dose and was only 'out' for a few days and back at work after a week, I didn't seem too bad during that first week but the following week it came back with a vengeance and I was completely floored. Fortunately I was only confined to the settee under a blanket for a few days but it took a couple more weeks to pull myself round properly. We both have had long covid, variously effecting our concentration, sleep-patterns, tiredness and I have only recently regained my senses of smell and taste.
We've since been double-jabbed and test twice a week now. We also continue to wear masks whilst shopping etc.
As you say, the vaccination doesn't prevent catching the virus (my boss and his family have all also recently had covid despite being vaccinated) but imagine how it could have been had you not been jabbed? It has always been said that you can still spread despite being jabbed, hence the necessity for everyone to get vacc'ed.
At the risk of getting political, I reckon the problem lies in the fact that the '
Johnson is more concerned with being popular than truly wishing to contain the problem of C19. And the people they are placating are the ones who have been the most vociferous opponents of lockdown, mask-wearing, vaccination etc. I would also hazard a guess (although I have heard it said elsewhere!) that they are quite probably the same demographic that were in favour of Brexit and so on. Apologies if that offends anyone!
Oh, and schools - another experiment in herd immunity at the risk of our kids.
Hope I won't be kicked off the forum now :)
Covid wiped me out first week. 2nd week last Monday breathing became difficult and I ended in on covid A&E and whilst there with no beds available spent two nights sleepless in a chair and became oxygen reliant. Horrendous time for two days put me into critical care and almost into ICU on a ventilator. Thank god for our NHS and the technology created off the back of Covid .. Saturday now and have been off oxygen since 1800 Friday night building back my blood oxygen levels. Maybe two more days and I'll be fit enough to head home. Do not take that you're double jabbed for granted. I'm fairly fit and double jabbed and went to the brink of needing ICU treatment. Wear a mask, wash hands and continue to keep your distance from others and get your booster or jabs if not already had them. Don't trust the governments I'll educated statements on covid double jab isn't 100% effective I'm proof of this, double jab doesn't stop spread. Esme has also been wiped out by covid both past isolation but both very tired. Stay safe all. Thank god for our NHS
I think the schools are letting the kids get it on purpose. Lots of teachers off some are young and not jabbed. On top of covid something bit my leg and I have an infection so ibuprofen and Fluclxacillin every 4 hours hoping the infection doesn't spread and the tablets work. I've drawn around it and its not gone past the lines but covers across the back of my leg.
The rules are becoming a joke tbh. I'm not sure my daughter's school mandates masks in the classroom (she is in 6th Form now anyway) but not hearing too much about her friends or others in school who are off because of it. The vast majority of people seem to be ditching masks when out shopping and I know we are far more lax at work than we used to be. No one in our household has had it yet (and the kids have had their jabs as directed) but I suspect it's only a matter of time.
