I watched the first episode of Transformation Street and it did make me wince a few times. Davina also asked about Transparent - was it any good?
Well, I think the first couple of series were good but it went down hill after that. It became more about a disfunctional family than trans issues which is were it started. Series 1 was the best and covered more of the trans issue. The flashbacks to his crossdressing days were quite funny.
It did, however, get me thinking that although trans issue have become more mainstream (the new gay now everyone seems to accept that) it stiil focuses on people wanting to transition. These are people with gender disphoria and not gender expression which are really are two separate issues.
I can't really think of any TV programmes that I've watched where there is a 'Davina' type crossdresser. They are either portrayed as drag queens or chararcyers to be laughed at. I don't watch Eastenders so don't know how the dealt with the issue. But crossdressing in it's various forms is probably more common than people think so not really represented on TV.
I guess that a 'Davina' type crossdresser doesn't really make that interesting TV.
