So me n Esme in Cardiff tye daybif the Pride march.
We were here for Peter Kay.. He was hysterical.
Missed the march, never done Pride, always thought these youngsters don't know they're born v the persecution of the people who fought for Gay and Trans rights etc.
Sure it would have been hard for them as kids realising they're gay or trans but far easier to come out over the last 10 years than in the early 20th century.
Anyway lots of Lesbians, Gay guys (Overly gay) and flaunting that they're gay which is their right and their "Whole month" but I didn't really appreciate being looked up and down at the bar. How does a gay guy pull or recognise if another guy is gay or bisexual?? I'm not that concerned but can't be easy.
What was lacking was trans from the mix..
Well almost.
We saw one tgirl but inappropriately dressed let's say and Esme said why do that If you want to be or look like a woman dress to fit in not stand out like that.. Two others who were way out there not looking to fit not even drag just ridiculous.. and I have to agree it does us tgirls no favours.
That got us talking quite a bit about Davina and how I need to be classy not trashy.
For me Stockings are a turn on and they're classy and sexy.. Esme told me they're trashy.. they're also handy for the loo easier access and also said and women don't generally wear 5 inch heels .. but I like high heels like how they make my legs look.
I can only work with what I have.. I'd love to go on a fashion spending spree for Davina which would be fab with Esme helping but can't justify it in my head given my lack of dressing time at the moment.
I've some opportunity coming up after next week if work doesn't get in the way and will definately dress.
The other thing I thought after the show last night was I should have packed a dress etc and gone back to the hotel to change and then go back out as Davina.. Apart from seeing friends at the show we didn't see anyone else, the lift down was away from prying eyes, the hotel was quiet, but Cardiff was a bit if a rowdy place until the early hours.
I think I could have got away given its Pride month with a walk out in Cardiff or maybe into a pub with Esme as Davina.
Thanks for your post. As someone who has yet to venture out into the wider world as Orla you touch on some of the apprehensions I have.
Clearly its a good idea to find LGBTQ venues for safety reasons but some of the dedicated trans nights like LFF appear to be on the wild and loud side. Still happy to go gigging in male mode but as a 60+ would be nice to have a gentle introduction for my feminine side.
Stockings dilemma an interesting one. Definitely like to wear them but advised given height etc that tights are the way to go if I want to have a chance of passing.
