A new, two-part documentary - 'The Golden Boy' - is released later this month
Oscar De La Hoya details his remarkable rise and fall, and touches on raw topics
Oscar De La Hoya finally addresses the infamous photos of his crossdressing, when he was pictured in fishnet lingerie and high heels - during a raw two-part documentary about his life.
The Golden Boy, released on July 24 by HBO, tells the remarkable story of De La Hoya's rise and fall in boxing.
The 50-year-old, now a promoter, became one of the most popular fighters of all time en route to winning Olympic gold and world titles in six weight classes.
But De La Hoya has also been dogged by scandal and substance abuse. He has faced accusations of sexual assault, while infamous photographs from his private life have made their way into the open.
'The world fell in love with my story... but it was a lie,' De La Hoya says in the documentary. 'I've never told anybody what really happened.'

He won Olympic gold and world titles in six weight classes during a remarkable career
The Golden Boy hit the headlines in 2007, when photographs appeared of him in fishnets, a tutu and high heels.
They were released by Milana Dravnel, a model and ex-stripper.
For several years, De La Hoya insisted the photos were fake. But in 2011, the former boxer admitted they were real.
That is only one difficult subject that De La Hoya addresses in the upcoming show. He also touches on the difficulties of life in the spotlight.

'There was nobody bigger, I was hanging out with beautiful women... I felt like a star,' says the 50-year-old, who started boxing aged six and by 24 was making $20million a fight.
'The golden left hook, the golden story. but the truth always comes out. I knew it would come back to haunt me.
De La Hoya adds: 'Money changes everything... my dream became a nightmare.'
The Golden Boy's professional career spanned 16 years and 45 fights. He won his first world title in 1994 and his final fight ended in a savage defeat by Manny Pacquiao in 2008.
I wonder how many more "macho" sports stars are secret crossdressers and if they crossdress to escape the pressure and fame? - Davina
Interesting. Never been a fan of boxing and don't really remember seeing much about him but he's pretty famous by all accounts so any hint of something 'out of the norm' will certainly grab the attention of the press pack. A scorned ex girlfriend, and a few drink, and drug fuelled parties, and there you go. Boom.
I started with wearing suspender belts and stockings and worked my way up to wanting to dress not just in lingerie but skirts, blouses, dresses etc and then threw in the wigs, shoes, jewellery etc. The pics I've seen of him so far seem to be no better than anyone could achieve at a Uni Freshers event or Stag do which isn't necessarily that newsworthy other than the fact that he's pretty famous.
I think it does raise a good point as to what actually we mean by someone being a 'crossdresser'? Just because you put on a fishnet bodystockinga and pair of knickers and prance around your house for a few photos doesn't necessarily a Crossdresser make, at least in my opinion, or does it? Once I got away from wearing just a suspender belt and stockings and added bras, Teddy's, corsets, corselettes and fake boobs, that's when I probably considered myself to be a Transvestite or Crossdresser (much prefer CD over TV). Its becoming immersed in the idea of presenting in a much more feminine way on a much more regular basis. Maybe there's more to our famous boxer than meets the eye but then again, maybe it's been blown out of all proportion
