Grayson Perry quote:
“People say if you’re trying to access some kind of feminine, emotional experience, dressing up is a rather crude way of going about it. And I always go, yeah, but you don’t decide to be a transvestite when you’re a sophisticated adult – you’re a child. Our sexuality is formed in the Petri dish of our childhood."
Sort of sums up why it all seems 'inexplicable' as Davina mentioned. Humans don't discover their stress techniques or sexuality or whatever as adults. We discover what we like as kids so it's no wonder as adults it all seems so odd. I actually think becoming a mother made me more sympathetic to my husband's needs. On the one hand, I'm less interested in indulging with him as I am in a very different place post-children. On the other, raising kids has shown me how eccentric little humans are so I can sort of understand why things like crossdressing happen.
Anyway, thought it was an interesting comment. He's an oddball, Grayson, but he knows a thing or two about cross dressing.

I think that the thing with Eddie is that he is free to dress as a woman when he likes and so the way he expresses this is different to a crossdresser with limited opportunities. If you only have the occasional chance then you will probably want to go the whole hog every time. Because I get a lot of opportunities I find that I hardly ever go for the full make up and wig. If I was presenting in public then maybe it's be different but at home it's fine.
Eddie has dress up and dress down days as normal women also do so it's not always full glam. From time to time I'll even go for the skinny jeans, ankle boots, t shirt and biker jacket look as I do think women can look sexy dressed in this way.
That maybe a little confusing to some crossdressers but it suits me and obviously Eddie.
I think that his hair style is pretty androgynous and I've seen plenty of women with more masculine styles so I can understand why he doesn't wear a wig.
Reading about his background it is pretty typical for a crossdresser and so I do think that he does make a good rile model. Women also find him attractive!
Not sure how old this article is but worth a read http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-188558/The-real-Eddie-Izzard.html
If you want to practice makeover that look up Joseph Harwood on youtube. He's professional make up artist as well as a crossdresser and the results are amazing.

PS On my CD bucket list is a MAC makeover. Only £50 but free if you buy products to the same value. Pretty easy to do in MAC.

The things with Eddie Izzard is he confuses kids too...
What I mean by this is my kids have seen him in films and being interviewed on TV as Eddie Tue man then they've seen him on his Labour Party political jaunts in eye shadow lippy, women's rain mac, and boots and asked whys he dressed like that to which I've always played Devils advocate asking what's wrong with it and they've said well he's got lipstick on and a women's coat and boots to which I've said well that's ok even quoting Eddie Izzard in saying they're not women's clothes they're his.
But he doesn't represent us as were more likely to have the wig and to want to try and pass more so someone couldn't see a pic of us dressed and say hang on that's soinso dressed as a woman..
Yes I will admit don't much like her but I'd love to be able to look like Katie Price when crossdressed.
This year i plan to experiment a bit more with makeup on me and my wife. Be nice to have a makeover but theyre so expensive I have better things to spend money on..
Will be watching YouTube makeup tutorials lol.

Eddy Izzard has sort of won the hearts hasn't he. But he's different and publicly out as he's trans. It's a big part of who he is so he doesn't help the private cause much. He has shown though that overall the public isn't threatened by crossdressing. He's considered eccentric and still cute by women, so that's good.
He's still a bit bonkers though as he clearly doesn't know who he is and flips publicly between male and female. Must be hard to live that way. It's definitely a more confusing state of being to not know what gender you are as opposed to the men here who crossdress for fun.
I think Davina is right about Alex Reid...he was encouraged to go public by Katie and then she used it against him. She's a nasty one that girl, and yet I bet crossdressers everywhere still try to look like her!

Neither of them where A list celebrities or people to whom have a special place in the nations heart.
I don't think that if David Beckham were a crossdresser and if he came out it would make us a nation of crossdressers. If you don't get anything out of it then why do it?
People make fun of David Beckham already, anybody in the public eye is a target, it's just that it might encourage a serious debate an highlight some of the the truths about crossdressing in the publics misconception.

Yes Alex Reid was a cage fighter or something and at first her outing him I thought oh here we go she's accepted his crossdressing bit then ridiculed him after the split which must have devastated him and wrecked his image not heard much about him since they split.
I think she pushed him out the door dressed too and encouraged it probably more for tabloid space on the front pages for her own ends.
Crossdressing is more accepted than before but its still taboo and misunderstood but were getting there.
Maybe I should write a book but who would read it as it would be boring married straight man crossdresses and here's why... Oh that's boring hes not gay or anything. Lol

Well, Alex Reid is an alpha male but I think being outed by Katie made him look like a bit of an idiot. Emma is right that even David Beckham would be made fun of. And yes, I think he's a crossdress but he's very private. Remember the boxer who was found out? Oscar or whatever? Same deal, everyone laughed. So in that regard Davina is right - no one public is like you guys as the sheer act of going public makes them different. Though I don't think Alex or Oscar wanted to publicly crossdress! They're more like the men here only they got caught, silly guys.

Happy New Year to everyone.
I think that Grayson Perry is right in that we develop this urge in childhood and it is not the decision of a rational adult. In childhood a lot of what will affect us into adulthood is developed whether that is crossdressing, sexuality or just the type of prejudices will will have later in life they are all formed doing this crucial period.
I believe that Grayson is similar in a number of ways it is just the way he presents himself is different to the 'Davina' type dresser. Crossdressing is a broad church ranging from simply wearing a pair of knickers to full BDSM. He probably travelled the same path as many of us it's just his final destination was a different stop.
Eddie Izzard tends to be more androgynous mixing both masculine and feminine looks. He is also very much out the closet and identifies as transgender.
I do think that a high profile, masculine male would help our cause but still wouldn't make it acceptable unless it was someone like David Beckham. He seems to be able to get away with anything!

I read some of Grayson Perrys comments and saw some vids on YouTube and I wouldn't want to think my other half is like him.
Davina is right there isn't someone in the mainstream who is a Davina Type Crossdresser which is why its so misunderstood.
I'm sure if David Beckham was outed in the papers as a TGirl he'd be ridiculed but also sure he could explain it like Davina explains it as fun escapism nothing more.
And it would give thousands of men someone to point at and say I cross dress and I'm just like him or knowing the way society works we'd see women dressing their men up as if the Beckams do it we can do it.
Happy New Year

My point was and this is take 3 Grayson Perry nor Eddy Izzard or Lilly Savage etc represent us as Crossdressers.
In fact they hinder our type of crossdressing to a degree by being who they are out in the open leading opinion to you're not gay, don't want to be a woman so are you like a drag queen or like Grayson Perry or Eddy Izzard?
The answers NO!
Were alpha male men who happen to enjoy dressing and presenting as women occassionally there isn't anyone in the limelight like us as if there was they'd nt be like us dressing in private.
It was rumoured David Beckham crossdresses and if he did and was outed then maybe wed be able to say there you go someone similar to us...

I'm not entirely certain what he means, but I think sexuality is in the broad sense of how a person is wired rather than who they're attracted to. Sexuality is all encompassing in that it relates to self image, attraction, bonding and a whole bunch of other things that make up a person. I think that's what Grayson meant rather than straight/gay or whatever. That's my interpretation from the article anyway. He's not trans either. He doesn't think he's female. He's just open about his dressing as he is a creative type and decided he didn't care what people think. He dresses like a sissy, for crying out loud, so he's clearly not trans. I sure couldn't live with him, lol. But he's realistic on what crossdressing is. He agrees is relaxing etc, but he doesn't deny the sexual origins like so many do and I respect him for that.
Anyway, that's how I interpreted it. But as you said, he's a bit of a nutter so I can see how you'd want to distance yourself from that lol.

I don't pay much attention to Grayson Perry as he's surpassed where I am on the trans spectrum. I saw a program he did a few weeks back again with trans people full on full time not us mere crossdressers.
What does he mean by sexuality as to me it means "Sexuality" and I'm straight and my gender is firmly male.
I've no idea what sexuality Grayson is and it doesn't interest me. I'm not sure I'd hail Grayson as a beacon or broadcaster of crossdressing seeing for me he espouses the thoughts that crossdressers are weird and odd / eccentric.
I'm none of those terms.
Ive always been a thinker not that i thought much about crossdressing when i was a kid but still hid it but i dont get all this linking crossdressing to childhood or it being the same childhood or childish thing. I always think ahead, in work and out of work life thinking at least 5 years ahead always planning my destiny.
I planned to marry and have two kids, my career and where i wanted to live where i wanted to holiday and how i wanted to live my life but crossdressing wasn't part of it at all its just something i do along for the ride.
I had reasons for dressing as a child different to my teenage years and different to my 20s and 30s and as i begin my 40s different again as it helps me unwind and is less sexual more about trying to look convincing l, relaxing and enjoying the escapism and stress release.
I'd love a chat on line with Grayson I'm sure it would be interesting and would be amazing if he would post here but I think he's more than a crossdresser as he's crossed the next step out i to the open world.
