Interesting article https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/19/masculinity-trap-why-more-men-should-wear-skirts although not sure if 2019 is the year men start wearing skirts.
Valid points Davina the article goes some way to opening up to the public but still the emphasis on celebs wacky celebs so its ok and not really on crossdressers but its a start.
I'm glad i'm in the seeming minority of accepting wives and i wish all you other girls had the courage to tell your wives what you want to tell them about your crossdressing and hope if you ever do you get a positive response as there are girls like me, Esme, Rebecca and Hannah about who were scared and skeptical and now have a level of acceptance some more than others still but we're no longer scared or worried by crossdressing. i'm not anyway as it's gone from something he does alone and behind my back to something i'm involved in and we have some fun with it and as Esme says you lot seem to be nicer when you're crossdressed
Masculinity is a trap - This is so true we are conditioned to be uber masculine...
– which is why more men should wear skirts I agree but this alone doesn't explain crossdressing nor convince wives and gfs its ok to do.
Clothes traditionally worn by women are becoming part of the mainstream of men’s fashion and helping break the straitjacket of prescribed roles... and behind the fashion scene I feel more men are crossdressing in private
Not everyone can pull off an upcycled velvet curtain, but it is a shame more dudes don’t try. I bet they do... we don't know how many men crossdress.. I think more than we realise..
As Porter told Stephen Colbert during an appearance on The Late Show, men’s clothing norms are mired in misogyny. “Women wearing pants is powerful,” the 49-year-old said. “It’s strong, everybody accepts it and it’s associated with the patriarchy.” Nothing wrong with women in trousers but its not the dream image us men desire.. maybe more women in trousers and jeans is one reason we decide to put on the dress.. Esme is 6 days out of 7 in leggings or trousers … I Love it when shes in a dress or skirt and heels.. far too rare and certainly part of the reason I dress .. a small part but it is a factor.
However, “the minute a man puts on a dress, it’s disgusting" but why is it disgusting? really why? because someone in history decided and everyone followed suit that a dress belongs to a woman and a certain way of dressing and an image belongs to a woman.. we can watch Black Adder back and see George in the white pig with lipstick when men dressed a lot more feminine and at some point in history this changed.. we can also see the time when a woman had to wear certain things and look a certain way and coundnt even vote and thank god we're more accepting of equal rights now but are we? why is it or why am I disgusting for dressing like a woman and presenting as a woman if its only clothing and an image and does no harm to anyone... conditioning by society to think that way and I used to feel guilty about it but I don't any more.. its just something I do and I enjoy it so "sod off" I'm a crossdresser lol , so what are you saying? Men are strong, women are disgusting? I’m not doing that any more … If I feel like wearing a dress, I’m gonna wear one!” exactly!!
It is sad that so many men are petrified about seeming effeminate. I crossdress but I in no way as a man act effeminate.. no one would guess.
It is sad that it is not socially acceptable for men to experiment with fashion in the same way women can. However are we messing about with fashion? i'm not as I don't dress effeminate as a man at all I go all out to present as a woman when I crossdress.
Happily, however, things are changing gradually. No one looks twice at a guy with a man-bun or a man-bag any more; male makeup is a growing industry; and male rompers were a thing for a while. But this isn't what we do we present two ways as a manly man or as the best image possible of a woman..
While men in dresses are still considered noteworthy, guys such as Porter are sashaying into the mainstream. The rapper Young Thug is fond of skirts and the actor Jaden Smith frequently and unapologetically dons dresses. “If I Wanna Wear A Dress, Then I Will, And That Will Set The New Wave,” Smith wrote on Twitter last year. But again these are celebs and people say oh theyre so whacky .. your wife doesn't say oh well youre so whackey wearing my dress they say please stop, but in terms of us crossdressing where celebs are crossdressing or making a statement or whatever it does go a little way to normalising men in dresses at least but these men aren't wearing fake tits and makeup and wigs to look like women they are men in dresses and skirts.. so still freak out time for a wife to see you as your alter ego
Meanwhile London fashion week featured so many men breezing along in gender-fluid fashion that GQ proclaimed: “2019 is the year men will start wearing skirts.” I certainly hope so. Masculinity is a straitjacket; it is high time more men broke free... No chance as a man you will ever see me out as a man wearing a dress or a skirt never going to happen.

Billy Porter is a singer, actor and man of fashion. He is also a man who isn’t afraid to wear a skirt. Porter wore a tuxedo dress to this year’s Oscars and rocked a very fabulous, very pink, uterus-inspired suit-gown to the Tony awards. This is celebrity and they get away with it
