4 sets of makeup in our house (3 women and a man....)

Living in a house with three women, there’s no shortage of makeup around—but I’ll be honest: I think mine is the neatest.

There’s something quietly satisfying about opening a drawer and seeing my little containers arranged just so: lipsticks, eye shadows, foundation, powder and contour, highlight and blush, a brush for everything.
It’s almost like a toolbox.
Maybe that’s the “man in me” talking, keeping Davina’s kit organised with military precision… but it’s also self-care.
My makeup is kept discreetly in a small drawer unit that blends into the bedroom the top half my wifes the bottom half mine... Davinas.
To anyone else, they’d think it belonged to my wife. But it’s all mine.
Nothing fancy—just affordable products that I’ve learned to use really well and that’s what matters: it’s not about spending a fortune, it’s about knowing how to use what you’ve got.
And I do. I’ve got colour corrector to even out beard shadow after a close tripple blade shave, foundation, powder, contour to shape the face, blush to bring it to life, smoky eyes look in the bag, and red glossy lips as I love red lips..
I love a look that’s glam but classy, with just a hint of sexy.
That's what I've been told by others which is nice to read or hear.
That little transformation from male face to feminine one - It still amazes me sometimes as I've blogged looking at male me in the mirror i look more Viking than demure classy woman so seeing myself as Davina amazes me might amaze my wife to see my latest pics and how my look's come on.
There’s a confidence in it, a calm, a creativity.
Davina comes alive with each brush stroke.
The irony is, the kids have no idea (I don;t think).
They see their mum helping one of them with makeup, giving tips, explaining how to apply mascara or pick a shade—and I have to stand there, pretending I know nothing.
I play ignorant to the skills i have in abundance..
Meanwhile, I’m quietly thinking, I might actually be better at makeup than my wife lol … Not that it’s a competition. More just one of those private moments of knowing.
I won’t lie—watching my daughter get new makeup recently made me a bit jealous.
I need new primer, a new foundation, and probably some powder too and always welcome new red shades of fresh lippy to apply.
But I don’t like spending too much on Davina, especially when I can’t dress very often - Makeup can go off - Gutting to find a dry lipstick when its your go to one.
Summer holidays make things tricky—the house is full, there’s no privacy, and makeup doesn’t last forever.
I don’t want to splash out on high-end products only to watch them go off before I can use them properly. But I'd love a go at some expensive makeup - I'd love a pro makeover but they're so expensive.. back to I don't spend much on Davina.
So I make do.
I’m careful.
I keep things organised, clean and looked after, even my makeup wipes and moisturiser have their own place for post-makeup skin care.
It’s all part of the ritual.
Looking after my skin after being Davina feels just as important as putting on the lipstick.
It’s not about being extravagant.
It’s about expression.
About care.
About "If you're gonna do something do it properly"
About showing up for this part of me that doesn’t always get to come out and play.
Even if I have to do my glam in secret.
Even if Davina is my best-kept secret in a house full of women.
I do wonder if the kids suspect anything.. Maybe one day they'll tell me they found my breasts, my heels or saw pics of me as Davina or this blog..
Davina may not have the flashiest makeup, but she knows exactly what to do with it.
Davina
I love your advice and tips . My make up is very limited . I rarely get to wear any so my skills are very poor.
You always look good in your photos. Hope you can share them with your wife soon.
Would life be any easier if your kids knew about Davina ? How would they react ? Both difficult questions with no straightforward answers.
Good luck and please keep posting these blogs.
