Bucket List: A Weekend Where Davina Steps Fully Into the World

Work has been relentless lately. Long days, travel, and the constant pressure of catching up have blurred into one.

Even when a rare free morning appears, it quickly gets swallowed by everything that didn’t get done the day before.

That balance between work and life?

It’s definitely leaning too far one way right now.

But in the middle of all that, there was a small win.

Realising I’d misread the school half-term dates bought me something unexpected: time.

A full extra week. And with that comes opportunity to intentionally carve out space for something that matters to me… time as Davina.

A Thought That’s Growing Into Something Bigger

This all tied back to a comment Katie made on one of my posts about makeup suggesting a makeover, maybe even sharing that experience with my wife.

At first, it felt like one of those “nice ideas” that sits in the background. But the more I thought about it, the more it started to evolve into something bigger. Not just makeup… but an experience.

Because that’s the real challenge, isn’t it?

It’s not just about getting ready or looking the part. It’s about:

Feeling comfortable

Feeling seen

Sharing that space with someone important in your life

She's not seen me as Davina in ages so that fear or shyness of showing her how I've developed my look exists.

However

The Idea: A Weekend Away

Doing something like this at home comes with complications.

Privacy, comfort levels, and that underlying vulnerability of letting someone new into your personal space.

So the idea shifted.

What if this wasn’t just a moment… but a getaway?

Places like one in Bath offer private makeover experiences, photoshoots, even overnight stays.

The thought of being transformed professionally, stepping fully into Davina, and having the space to just exist like that for a while… it’s incredibly appealing.

But then another idea crept in.

Taking It Further: A Proper Escape

Maybe somewhere like Blackpool.

A place where you can blend in, where nobody knows you, where you can step out without overthinking every glance. Somewhere that feels far enough removed from day-to-day life that you can just be.

Now imagine it:

A joint makeover — both of us getting ready together

Laughing through the process, learning, experimenting

Seeing Davina fully realised in a way that’s hard to achieve alone

Then either stepping out into the world… or staying in for a relaxed girls’ night

No pressure. No expectations. Just an experience.

When Plans Don’t Quite Happen

Ironically, this weekend was supposed to be a small version of that escape.

We’d planned a much-needed break to Cardiff — a bit of shopping, food, drinks, music, maybe a comedy club and a last-minute hotel.

One of those spontaneous getaways that lets you step away from everything.

Those trips matter more than they probably seem on the surface.

They give us space away from routine, away from distractions — and for me, they often create the right moment to talk about Davina. Not forced, not planned… just naturally, in a different environment.

But this time, it didn’t quite come off.

No trains running. And from where we are, the bus just isn’t a great option.

What should have been simple suddenly felt like too much effort.

So instead, we’ll have to rethink it.

Slowing It Down Instead

Maybe the answer this weekend isn’t a city, a hotel, or a big plan.

Maybe it’s something simpler.

A good walk. Fresh air. Time to talk without distractions.

Because when everything is moving too fast — work, life, stress — sometimes slowing it right down is what’s actually needed.

And maybe that space still gives the same opportunity:

To talk

To share

To keep moving things forward, even if it’s quieter than planned

If anything, this weekend reinforces the bigger point.

Work will always find a way to take over. Plans won’t always fall into place.

But creating space whether it’s a weekend away in Blackpool, a makeover experience in Bath, or just a walk closer to home that’s the part that matters.

Because this isn’t really about where it happens.

It’s about making sure it does happen.

On the List

Not just a thought anymore.

Not just an idea.

A real bucket list item:

A weekend away where Davina isn’t hidden, rushed, or squeezed into spare time… but fully present.

And even if this weekend looks a little different…

…it might still be a step towards that.

Who knows

Davina

Hold onto that dream and at some point the stars may align and you can make it happen. A weekend away where you can share Davina with your wife in a safe environment without any pressures or worries. Good luck I hope it happens soon.
