"Colour Coordination & Crossdressing – Why Presentation Matters"

This follow on from the last post on People watching.
I’ve always believed in presenting well. Even in my everyday life — as a man — I put effort into how I dress. Smart, coordinated, a little stylish but not over the top.
Back when I worked in a more office-based role at HQ, there was a woman who always commented on it.

"You always match everything so well!"
"Your trousers and shirts just blend perfectly!"
"Even your shoes go with the whole look — do you plan this?"
I used to laugh it off, just saying, "Oh, it's just common sense isn't it got to look smart for the job for the office?"
But inside? I’d think, "You should see me when I crossdress lol that's my fashion sense — and your fashion sense noticing it!"
Of course, I could never say that at work. But I always found it funny that she noticed something that, deep down, connected to Davina.
Because that attention to detail? That need to look the part? It carries through when I dress as Davina, too.
Why Presentation Matters — Both As a Man & As Davina
For me, dressing well has never been about showing off — it’s about self-respect.
Wanting to look you best all the time.
If I’m in a suit (rare), I want the colours to work - I want to look Bond (James not Jane this time).
If I’m in jeans and a shirt, I want it to feel coordinated.
It’s about effort, balance, and knowing what suits me.
And that translates perfectly into crossdressing.
When I become Davina, it’s not just about throwing on a dress and heels. It’s about matching tones, choosing the right accessories, blending makeup with outfit choices, and making sure I look classy and put together as a woman would.
It’s probably why, when I see certain women out and about (especially on nights out), I sometimes think:
"Blimey, Davina would look more put-together than half of them!"
"If I ever did go out dressed, I'd actually blend in just fine!"
Because I care about the little details. The things that make an outfit feel right — not just worn, but presented properly. My wife gets the bonus that my eye for detail can help her too with her look though id have her in black tights, heels, red lips and a black lacy dress all the time if i could lol.
A Shared Secret Between My Two Sides
What’s funny is that my ability to colour-coordinate and present myself well as a man has always been praised.
People notice when a man dresses well. They see it as confidence, professionalism, a sense of style.
But what they don’t realise is… it’s also something crossdressing has maybe taught me.
When I put together an outfit for Davina, I apply the same logic:
Does this colour suit my skin tone?
Do these shoes work with the dress?
Is the makeup balanced and blended well?
The right lippy and eye shaddow to match the colour scheme I'm wearing.
And what’s fascinating is that Davina has probably made me a better-dressed man. - Thats utter tosh lol As a "Person" I'm smartly dressed it has nothing to do with Davina really that i co-ordinate and look the part whatever i'm doing .. even now green joggers, black trainers and a green t-shirt looks smart colours compliment and co-ordinate oh and under this black lace knickers lol.
Ok maybe crossdressing has given me an even sharper eye for detail. It’s trained me to think about balance, proportions, what works and what doesn’t.
So in a way, even when I’m dressed in my everyday male clothes… a little bit of Davina is always there (Possibly).
Final Thought
Maybe one day, I’ll get the confidence back to take Davina out into the world again - It's been a long time (Pre Pandemic last time i was out as Davina). And if I ever do, I’ll know this much:
She’ll look classy.
She’ll look put together.
She'll look confident ..
And she’ll absolutely be colour-coordinated.
Because that’s just who I am — no matter which side of me is showing.
