Some secrets you can whisper out loud, and still keep hidden.
This is a quick story of how I, without planning it, told my wife's best friends that I was a crossdresser — and they laughed it off, thinking I was joking.

In their eyes, the idea was too unbelievable to even entertain.
It all started when my wife and her friends planned a girls’ night out with three of her best friends.
They added me to their group chat by mistake— just for a laugh I added to the chat of what are you going to wear etc that women chat about on a night out prep — and I got swept up in the banter.
I joked:"Am I part of the girls' group now?"
They teased back:"You can come — but not our husbands!"
"Only if you wear a dress!" added one of the girls..
So of course, I played along.
"Should I go all in? Matching lingerie, tights not stockings as stockings are a faff when out, a nice short dress, heels... maybe even a wig to pass?"
The chat exploded with lols.
They know me as the “gold standard husband” — A man who always makes an effort, makes them laugh, and, from what my wife has said, is often held up as an example husband.
She would say otherwise - But has to admit i'm not that bad..
The jokes kept flying. And underneath the jokes... I felt a bit of a thrill.
I was teasing the truth. Only they didn’t know it.
The night out arrived.
We met them in a pub — all four women dressed nice in heels, makeup, perfume (jealous much me? ...yes):
My wife in a fabulous leopard-print dress and heels, her hair framing her face.
Her friends, two slim blondes (one in blue, one in black), and a brunette in a green dress.
I was in a check shirt, jeans — classic masculine.
One of the girls laughed as I walked in:"Aww, you didn’t come dressed as a woman!"
My wife muttered, "Over my dead body," and we all laughed.
What they didn’t know is that earlier that evening, I had done my wife's makeup for her — and she had been impressed.
When her friends complimented her makeup in the pub, she admitted it:
"Actually, he did it for me!"
Cue stunned silence then admiring looks."How do you know how to do makeup so well?"
I just smiled and said,"Maybe I'm secretly a crossdresser..." (The Truth - My wifes face though hearing that may have given it away if anyone had seen her expression)
Laughter again. They thought I was joking.
We spent half the night talking about makeup, high heels, and girly stuff.
I held my own easily — Maybe too easily.
They kept pressing:"Seriously though, how do you know this stuff?"
And I teased back:"Maybe I'm secretly a t-girl.."
One of them chirped,"We should totally give you a makeover next time and really bring you out as a woman"
My wife said "Without me then as I wont go out with you lot dragging him out in drag"
"Yeah — and you'd need a wig and a name.. WE could call you Davina said her best friend.. (Ohhh that was even closer to the truth)
I was called Davina all night playfully by them all .. Not my wife who was thinking this is far too close to you coming out as a t-girl..
Hours passed we had a good night and finally time to go home.
"Good night Davina!" one of them said as we all kissed before parting ways for our taxis home.
In the cab ride home, my wife smirked at me."You told them everything about your crossdressing... and you knew they'd never believe you. Smart arse."
She wasn’t wrong.
The secret was out... but safely tucked away.Just a little closer to the surface than before.
I knew they'd never believe me such is my male presentation and persona.
Recalling and Looking back, that night was quite a thrill for me.
I wasn’t hiding Davina — I was letting her out in public, wrapped in jokes and disbelief but talking girly things as if i was one of the girls "You're properly one of the girls" said one of her friends at one point.. Maybe I'm different from their husbands, maybe being a t-girl gives me more insight to "womanhood" maybe its why i prefer to chat with them than the other men if we're all out.. maybe I've inadvertently let my softer side show and that's somehow got me this ideal husband tag?
It reminded me: sometimes, secrets don't need locks and keys. They just need the right smile, the right timing — and the right people to miss the truth completely.
Maybe one day Davina will walk into that pub for real with them. Wouldn't that be a great night out.. I'd have the best legs!! "Lol"
Maybe... 'Never going to happen my wife wouldn't let that happen'.
... Maybe..
Until then...She smiles from the shadows.
