Did the question trigger the birth of Davina?
Sometimes I look back at my crossdressing journey and wonder just how different my life might have been if one conversation had never happened.
My wife "Let me put makeup on you and Dress you as a woman"
At the time, I don't think either of us could possibly have imagined where that innocent question might eventually lead.
I was already attracted to trying on women's clothing.
I liked the things I saw women wearing—stockings, heels, lingerie and dresses.
I liked the fabrics, the look and the femininity of them.
I'd loved lingerie and silky things since I was a kid.
But there is a huge difference between appreciating those things and actually sitting down while your wife puts makeup on you and transforms you.
First encounter with make up and fully dressed..
Looking back now, I wonder whether that moment opened a door.
Would Davina exist without it?
This is the question I keep coming back to.
Would I have eventually progressed from occasionally wearing women's clothes to wanting the complete transformation?
Would I have discovered makeup?
Would I have bought a wig?
Would I have created the name Davina?
Would I have wanted to present fully as a woman rather than simply enjoy wearing particular items of clothing?
I honestly don't know - But at the time I was far from presenting as a woman - I was just wearing lingerie and heels stockings tights although I had tried on one or two dresses but wasn't trying to look and present as a woman.
Perhaps that side of me would have gone away and not progressed to wanting to see how well I could present as a woman.. The other factor the exact opposite (in my head) - Why didn't my wife want to wear sexy lingerie? Thats something for her to explain - And so far thats been I don't feel comfortable in lingerie - What really? my head thinks - I love wearing it.. I'll never understand that.
I think my wife's question all those years ago moved my crossdressing to wanting to try to present as a woman - Seeing myself in the mirror was a eureka moment OMG I don't look bad.
It's impossible to know the alternative version of my life.
But I do know that the journey changed considerably over the years.
From clothes to transformation
In the beginning, it was largely about the clothes.
I loved the feel of stockings and lingerie. I loved heels. I liked dresses and the different sensation of feminine fabrics against my skin.
Then makeup became part of it.And makeup changed everything.
Suddenly I wasn't simply putting on an item of women's clothing.
I was looking in the mirror and seeing somebody different.
Then came the wig, my wife got me my first wig - She really didn't have to do that but it was another trans spectrum shift that first time fully dressed, minimal makeup then the wig "OMG I look like a woman"..
Then perfume.
Then finding clothes that suited my shape - a V neck dress with sleeves.
Then learning how to put everything together - on line tutorials..You tube mainly.
Eventually betweenme and my wife WE created Davina.
She became more than simply a name I used when dressed.
Davina became the feminine side of me that I could step into for a while but would always change back to male me - de-stressed male me.
The transformation became an escape from everyday life.
I'm still me.
I'm also someone who happens to love presenting femininely.
That's probably one of the biggest misconceptions about crossdressing.
People sometimes assume that discovering this side of yourself means everything else about you must change. It doesn't.
For me, Davina is another part of who I am.
And what about my wife?
The person who unknowingly opened that door all those years ago.
My wife has seen the journey develop from those early experiments into what it is today and set levels of acceptance wanting nothing to do with it at first to that day she met Davina working from home to girls nights in and one out etc.
She doesn't necessarily share my enthusiasm for every aspect of feminine clothing, and we've had to navigate the subject together and need to keep navigating and tlaking.
But that original question still makes me smile.
Because neither of us knew where it would lead.
She simply thought it would be fun.. Was that it or did she read something in a book.
Maybe she was curious.
Maybe she wanted to see what I'd look like.
Whatever her reason, she gave me an opportunity to discover something about myself.
And 25 years later, I'm still discovering things.
The "what if?" will always remain
I'll never know what would have happened if my wife had never asked that question.
Maybe I'd still be occasionally sneaking into a pair of stockings without ever discovering the joy of makeup, wigs, dresses, heels and the complete transformation.
My wife didn't create that side of me. Perhaps she simply gave it permission to come out.
And that is what makes me think about that moment even more.
Sometimes life-changing moments don't look important when they happen.
They're just an ordinary conversation.
An innocent question.
A "why not?"
And you have absolutely no idea that 25 years later you'll look back and think:
"That might have been the moment Davina began."
I wonder how many other crossdressers have a moment like that in their own story?
Because perhaps our journeys don't always begin with a grand revelation.
Sometimes they begin with someone simply opening a door.
And I'm very glad I walked through it. ❤️👠
