šŸ’„ Weekly Hot Spot: Makeup Tips for Crossdressers. So thought I'd blog about this from two intelligent beautiful funny ladies on the weekly hot spot some good tips.. below my thoughts on makeup.

I've blogged about makeup before this is a recap and also as the weekly hotspot featured makeup this week on my morning walk..

Who would think this Alpha leader of people, husband and father enjoys playing with makeup and making him self look presentable as a woman.. picking up skills makeup artists kept hidden for years ..

If there is one part of becoming Davina that I have spent years perfecting, it’s makeup.

When I first started, it was pretty basic.

Over the years, though, I’ve learned more and more, watching makeup artists on YouTube, studying what they do, copying techniques, experimenting and eventually adapting them to work for me.

I suppose AI could probably turn my routine into a step-by-step cartoon if I gave it the right instructions… but for this week's Weekly Hot Spot commentsry, I'll stick to describing it!

šŸŖ’ Start with a good shave

For us crossdressers, the starting point is a good, close shave.

I use good-quality razors and take my time because everything that follows is easier when you're starting with a smooth face.

My wife knows I crossdress and knows that, for me, it tends to be all or nothing. If I'm going to become Davina, I don't just put on a dress, it's the makeup, wig, tights or stockings, heels, lingerie and the whole transformation.

She actually prefers me with a little stubble, so unfortunately for her, Davina means a clean-shaven face!

🧓 Moisturise first

Once I've shaved, I moisturise.

At the moment I use L'OrƩal, although I've also used Nivea and Bulldog in the past. Personally, I don't think you necessarily need a specifically "feminine" moisturiser. We're working with our own skin, and whatever works for you is what matters.

The important thing is to let it sink into the skin before moving on.

šŸŽØ Colour correction

Next comes colour corrector.

Mine has different colours — orange, green and purple, which can be used to counteract different tones.

Orange can help neutralise beard shadow, while other colours can help with redness and uneven tones.

I'm lucky because I'm naturally blonde and don't suffer too badly from beard shadow, but colour correction can make a huge difference for those who do.

Mines from Amazon it was around £5 and lasts me a year around 20 transformations or more.

Again, let it settle before moving on.

Then comes foundation.

For me, the key is getting the right colour to match your skin tone.

There's nothing worse than having your face a completely different colour to your neck!

I use a liquid foundation and apply it all over my face. I think of this as creating my blank canvas.

And don't feel you need to spend a fortune. When you're learning, cheaper makeup is absolutely fine. You can always invest in more expensive products once you've worked out what you like and what works for you, what's in your budget also..

I've been dressing for over 30 years doing makeup the last 25+ and I've always gone with the cheap stuff, it works for me its just like face art.

✨ Contour, highlight and blend

This is where my routine has changed over the years.

Originally, I would go straight into blush, but now I contour first.

I contour my cheeks, chin and around the edges of my face. This darkens some areas and emphasises my cheek bones.

Then I add highlight to areas including my eyelids, the tip of my nose, chin and underneath my eyes for that pop.

And then comes the bit that makes it all work:

Blend. Blend. Blend.

I use a sponge for the highlight and another for the contour and just blend it in.

You don't want obvious lines showing where you've put everything, the aim is to create shadows and highlights that subtly change the appearance of your face and to feminise your features.

Then I add a little blush and brush it in.

Not too much like Erika says on the podcast..

Finally, a light dusting of powder helps take away some of the shine.

šŸ‘ļø The eyes

Now we get to my favourite part.

I'm always told as a man and as Davina that I have nice eyes.

I've got quite big brown eyes with a hint of green, so I usually start with brown eyeshadow.

I'll use a darker brown closer to the lashes and a lighter shade higher up remembering I started with a base of highlighter

Sometimes I'll introduce a little gold too depending on my look.

Then I blend it lightly to create some contrast without leaving obvious edges with a small brush.. oh I forgot to add you can also get a good cheap set of brushes for different elements of the transformation I used probably around 10 brushes of different size and shape.. I'll take photos next time I dress and explain what brush does what.

Again YouTube is your friend here.

Next comes the detail brush.

I dip it into black and work along the upper lash line. So you've got lighter brown, darker brown and then black right above the lashes.

I also work black along the bottom lashes, starting from the roots. This helps create the smoky-eye effect I like.

Then it's mascara.

I'm quite lucky because I naturally have long eyelashes, so a bit of mascara really brings them out.

I get so many mentions about my lashes from women as a man.. OMG look at your long lashes they're so wasted on a man.. actually they're not wasted lol little do they know about my en fem transformation.

Sometimes I'll add eyeliner and a little flick at the outer corner, but not always.

It depends on the look I'm going for.

And that's the eyes done.

šŸ’‹ Red lips — Because I'm a red-lipstick kind of girl!

I start with the red lipstick and then use lip liner, slightly overstating the natural shape of my lips. Nothing ridiculous, just enough to give them a little more definition.

Then I fill everything in with lipstick.

The finishing touch is gloss.

Sometimes clear, sometimes red and occasionally a darker red depending on the look.

šŸ’¦ Set it

Once I'm happy with everything, I finish with setting spray.

That's important because there's nothing worse than spending time creating your makeup only for it to disappear, smudge or become shiny after an hour.

From start to finish, my routine takes around 15–20 minutes.

That includes allowing the moisturiser, colour corrector and foundation time to settle rather than rushing through every stage.

I guess this comes from my early days when my wife knew I dressed but didn't want to know if been dressed quick makeover dress chill take it all off and that's just as important for Crossdressers as I'll touch on..

šŸ’° You don't need to spend a fortune

One thing I'd say to anyone starting out is don't go crazy buying expensive makeup.

There are loads of affordable products available, and when you're learning, you're going to make mistakes.

That's part of the fun! As is nailing it and thinking yes that's my look.

Learn the basics first. Experiment. Find out what colours suit you and what techniques work with your face.

Bright colours are probably a no as you don't want to look like a clown.. neutral pastel shades are better and more natural.

Then, if you want to, start upgrading individual products.

You don't need a £200 makeup bag to create a great look.

šŸ‘— And then comes the wig...

For me, makeup creates the face, but the wig is the frame.

Once the makeup is done, the wig goes on, and suddenly the whole thing comes together.

Add the dress, lingerie, tights or stockings and heels…Et voilĆ  — Davina!

That's the thing I love about makeup. It's not about trying to become somebody else. It's about creating the version of yourself that you've spent years learning how to present.

I've spent a long time experimenting with makeup, and I'm still learning. But that's part of the enjoyment.

So if you're a crossdresser just starting out, don't worry if your first attempt doesn't look like a professional makeup artist did it.

Mine didn't either.

Practise, experiment, watch, learn and most importantly, enjoy the transformation. šŸ’„šŸ‘ šŸ‘

ā¤ļø This week's hot spot

Don't try to perfect everything on day one.

Learn one technique at a time, practise it, and gradually build your routine.

Because eventually, you look in the mirror, smile and think:

"Yep… that's the look I want"

Taking it all off..

This is just as important if your out to your wife / partner or not..

Get some makeup wipes again low cost brands do the job .. but not fully.. you'll also need miscillar water for some longer stay makeup to help break it down .. and it's eye makeup that's gonna give the game away.

Here's what I do step one makeup wipes and get as much off as possible.. then my eyes with cotton pads and miscillar water as that breaks down mascara and eye makeup .. my next step and here's where you'll want cheaper moisturiser.

Squirt some on your hands and cover your face in moisturiser or even moisturised face scrub.. this should be part of male face routine anyway then wipe off with a warm moist flannel noting makeup mat stain the flannel but it'll wash off..

Check in the mirror as your face may now be a little red, maybe your eyes are a little puffy..

Dry your face check for any sign of makeup then use you're more high brand L'OrƩal or Nivea moisturiser and I've also got some under eye Nivia moisturiser I use to assure no redness or any puffiness..

Voilla you're back to clean shaven moisturised man with no trace of your fem self.

Thank you, that is a really informative guide to your routine. 25 years experience - not sure I have that time left in me!! šŸ˜€ But I get it practice practice trial and error. I am saying to myself that I wont be going outside, but deep down I wish for make up and wig to complete the look that gives me that confidence. I am happy in what I am wearing and what my wife and I picked out at the weekend, now I need to work on the make up side.
