Yes we seem to have assumed collectively somewhere along the way that our research and ability to hang labels on everything means that we can rate, assess and cure everything, be it something banal like a lunch in a pub or something more profound like sadness and anxiety. Who assesses the assessors? Who decided that sadness is a condition which can be cured with a pill?Very frustrating I agree. And anyway, if wearing a dress was to be viewed as a disorder, where would that leave supporting Chelsea??I rest my case x
As we've discussed before labelling people is very dangerous and even more making connections between 'disorders' is even more dangerous. In the thread I said that there are over 500 paraphilia documented.
By the DSM diagnosis crossdressing itself is not a paraphilia. It is the effect that it has on a person that might lead to paraphilia. The paraphilia is the sexual dependence and not the act itself. As Davina has said many times our crossdressing doesn't harm anyone in general society so cannot be classed as such.
The danger is that people with limited knowledge, like Sindy's friend, may decide to titillate or express their own bias in associating different conditions.
We had the paraphilia discussion with Sindy a while ago. She was upset that a friend had suggested that crossdressers were in the same category as paedophiles. It was a bit of a shock. I had to explain that it was only extreme cases and I think from memory the DSM where considering dropping it altogether. I think it is now classed as 'normal' behaviour.
To think that what we do could be linked anywhere near paedophilia is sickening and very wrong waaaay off the mark.
It is normal behaviour but very damaging for a wife looking up crossdressing and finding such negatives especially if a wife came across this in the same bracket as that.
Whatsa disorder is what my husband and Davina seem to do and thats work and work and work and get stressed out by it thats a disorder an unhealthy one and if crossdressing helps then its a part cure not a disorder is my view on this.
Fab find in Sophies videos Davina have you asked Sophie to sign up here?
We are a support group and a damn good one at that.
I've added a new video on another post from the same youtube Vlog
I think the next generation will have a different outlook on crossdressing.
For some the Paraphilla does apply for most of us we can cope without it but so miss it when we can't dress as most of us enjoy crossdressing and find it fun.
I don't have a disorder, i have more order in my life than most people.
Reading the treatment section I think it infers that it's a matter of coping when the problem becomes serious - altering risky behaviour. Learning to accept is part of the treatment and often those seeking help have other issues - depression, drugs etc
It also mentions a support group. Aren't we a support group?
The important thing to remember is that the majority of crossdressers do not fall into the DSM category so no need to worry.
That section on "treatment" concerns me as there is no treatment as far as I'm concerned, even psychological treatment, a wife taking her crossdressing husband to a shrink has probably given him an ultimatum.
The urge to dress will always be there no matter what the so called experts say, to try and force a T-Girl not to dress will make them feel really bad in the long run.
They'll be telling us next we have to have electric shock treatment like they used to do with gay men! ๐คฌ๐คฌ
I have enough potential disorders for an entire conference but enjoying putting on a skirt isnโt one of them.Having said that, itโs quite a shock when you investigate this - supposedly there are 8 different disorders of this type including sadistic, voyeuristic and pedophilia and different โtreatmentsโ to cure them. To put it in perspective, half the adult population must be suffering from some paraphilia or other.
I cant help that society has a disorder with me wearing things and presenting in the image of what society deems to belong to the opposite sex to myself.

The internet is full of โexpertsโ but as you say we all know what makes us tick. The whole โdressing thingโ is such a broad spectrum that I for one would hesitate to try and explain away any one part of it.
We're unlistable โ I don't have a disorder I'm just mmm mmmm mmm mmmmm mmad
I donโt know? Her breasts are very realistic x
Here's the full list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_paraphilias
It's not a tick list @LizT ๐

Oh. In that case Iโm a card carrying paraphiliac. At least now I know.
Crossdressing is only a paraphilia if it interferes with your everyday life to such an extent that is becomes uncontrollable.
Normal? How dare you Catriona?! x
I don't have a disorder either.
The psychologists need to take a look at some the chasers before crossdressers, they are the ones who have real problems if you ask me.
T-Girls are comparatively normal compared to them.
