I watched Bohemian Rhapsody again last night and "I want to break free" was featured and how MTV banned the video in the USA with Brian May exclaiming "Americans prim and proper on the surface and perverts behind closed doors"...
Things have changed as we know our very own @Savannah Hauk is out and about, blogging, vlogging, writing books and podcasting about crossdressing in the US of A..
But to my point, as a kid I was into real music.. Aka The Beatles, The Beegees (not that high pitch nonsense), Roy Orbison and other proper voices but mainly bands which in the 80s my early youth for me hating 80s techno synthesis rubbish was led by Queen and the enigmatic front man Freddy Mercury.
At no point as a kid did I acknowledge rumours or his sexuality .. So what he was a hell of a front man pretty unique voice and I still lobe the Queen sound along with other Rock bands..
Davina is a Rock Chick.. But did Queen have any influence on my Cross dressing?
I want to break free.. Roger Taylor is most certainly a cross dresser he looks fab as a woman lol did this influence my cross dressing I wonder, normalising something I was doing from time to time?
Anyone else found similar influences?
Davina
Not realising possibly that a bit of lube fixes anything...
Paranoia round at Davina’s in laws! 😆
Thanks both. I guess if we barely understand it then what hope do older parents have. All my family knew to be honest. Weird to speculate what we’d do if we discovered our son had similar tendencies - would we say anything, probably not? Or wonder if it was inherited somehow. Must have happened sometime, somewhere! x
Sorry...tumbleweed...😳
I remember watching TOTP with my dear dad, god rest him, the vid for Want to Break Free came on, he turned to me and said, but isn’t this encouraging people to be homosexual?? That was when I realised that he must have been totally freaked and bewildered at discovering that I liked to borrow his daughters’ clothes...I know that he knew. And then I considered on how him and my mum had adopted me because he wanted a son after his two natural daughters. This carved me into little pieces at the time. No wonder I grew up with such a weight of guilt about it all!
WE love Queen too and Roger Taylor looked fab as a woman
I can remember a few teachers in primary school I had a crush on and in secondary school.
Not sure at the time I was thinking what they wore influenced me cross dressing but I definately thought about them when I'd cross dress ahem 🙄
In my boys only school there were no female teachers so I had to make do with Dick Emery and Hinge & Brackett. Jesus.
I used to think about my female teachers more than the girls in school lol.
I can't think of any real influences on my dressing. I do remember a girl in my class that I used to fancy. She has a pencil skirt with buttons all the way up the side. My sister had a similar skirt that I used to 'borrow'. I guess it was me trying to be close to this girl and influenced by her style.

He’s probably a member of this site...hi Rog!..loved the drums on We Will Rock You...
Roger Taylor at it again dressed up with Freddy ..
I’d like to be a rock chick but for the last 11 months I’ve been a rock dick I guess...(eh?)...stuck in drab and listening to my Who and Led Zep playlists very loud in the car, causing innocent pedestrians to say ‘what a dick’ as I drive by. Big Queen fan, saw them live at Knebworth, awesome. But the Break Free vid never resonated particularly (despite RT’s obvious relish in his role). There were some old rock songs the lyrics of which I used to pore over in hushed fascination...Lola, Arnold Layne, I’m A Boy by The Who, various Bowie. Somehow relieved the guilt and tweaked the imagination of a poor lad investigating his urges !
Watched a documentary last night on Freddy and his outfits and they showed quite a bit of him in drag which I wasnt aware of and the amount of tgirls at his wild party's..
Thanks for the shoutout!!! I am, by no means, a rockstar but I was influenced a little by the sexuality of the big hair glam bands of the 80s, the enigmatic androgynous David Bowie, Annie Lenox, and the very specific video from Queen you referenced. Sending love.
My take is that they had little or nothing on the dressing scene though Freddie came to define a certain “gay look”. Even as a lady in that picture he stuck to that look.
