I've recently joined a Discord server that caters to the whole trans community in the organising of a regular, and highly popular, monthly event in Leeds. Recently a member asked the question 'Who on this server identifies as a Crossdresser?' There was no malice behind the question, the individual just wanted to know as the majority on the server consider themselves further along the spectrum to the point of fully transitioned etc. As part of the response it seemed like most did not like the 'term 'Transvestite' which many seemed to think implied negative associations whilst it also appeared that many saw the term 'Crossdresser' as 'old fashioned'. The more up-to-date term suggested was 'Gender Nonconforming'.
I've always disliked the TV phrase and saw myself as a CD but can happily accepted either CD or GnC. I found the discussion on the server interesting so just curious as to what others may think in this space?
I think seeing I present fully fem or not at all I'm further along the Trans spectrum as it's all or nothing.
I was a crossdresser when i merely wore clothing deemed "womens clothing"
I'm more than that wearing a wig, makeup, perfume, lingerie, hosiery, heels, dresses, skirts, blouses, boots, leggings etc trying to appear as real as possible and passable as a woman I suppose it's more to the transvestite label although i'm not dressing as much as i want to hence not a part time crossdresser although i am part time due to restricted opportunities..
my wifes fear is i'd dress a lot more and present fem a lot more, and go out as Davina or even come out to more people. not about to come out to more people as i know how awkward that could make our lives but i would like to present as Davina "A LOT" more as and when i need my escape to being Davina which helps me with my mental health.. pointless asking why but it helps me.
So Crossdresser .. i do crossdress and the forum is still valid to my position on the trans spectrum / sliding scale as I think most here present as women, makeup wigs etc but i too don't really like the clinical term transvestite, and Tranny is more a derogitory term .. my preference is T-Girl.
